Late 19th century gold gilt zinc weathervane
A true working example of a late 19th century zinc weathervane in the form a rooster. With its original gold gilt paint still intact this makes this object quite rare as usually the gold gilt has completely weathered away. Displayed on a bespoke wrought iron stand which showcases this artifact perfectly as a centrepiece decorative object. Originally this item would have sat high on a roof attached to a large compass to display which way the wind was blowing. A truly lovely example in completely untouched and original condition.
Size in inches: Rooster: H 32” x W 21” x D 8” / with stand H 63”
Origin: French
Period: Late 19th century
Material: Zinc
Condition: Completely solid in structure and form, fading and wear across the surfaces with worn surface and losses of paint in areas. Some of the paint has been lost across its tail due to its age, with surface dents across the ball the rooster stands on as shown. Aged repairs are present in areas but not noticeable as done respectfully. Its exceedingly difficult to photograph all the areas in this piece, therefore we strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections are unclear to avoid disappointment.
