An exceptional Victorian hand painted and lacquered papier mache twin handled tray dating from around 1850. The rounded tray has a shaped rim with ornate brass rococo handles applied to either side. The tray is hand painted with castle in a landscape with soldiers on foot and on horseback approaching the castle. The scene is finely painted with the castle created from inlaid mother of pearl shell. The base is painted black and the tray is not marked.
