This most unusual 19th century solid figured yew wood stool is made in the form of a large box that is supported on each corner with turned baluster legs with original brass castors.
The sides are rebated within a moulded frame and they are decorated on each side with turned spindles. The top is upholstered in deep buttoned brown hide forming a large seating or footrest area. This lifts on brass hinges to reveal a spacious storage compartment ideal for books or magazines.
The interior has been recently re-lined in a baize-leather cloth.
This large and decorative figured yew wood stool probably came from a country estate. It has a rich colour and patination.
