End of the 19th century
Flower marble is a historic marble, widely used in the 19th century for exceptional creations. One of the most remarkable examples of the work of this marble is the extraordinary fireplace of the large Napoleon III apartments fair at the Louvre museum, decorated with bronze babies forming lights.
An old marble fireplace fireplace is also visible in the oval living room of the Soubise hotel in Paris.
The great architect Charles Garnier also used this quality marble for the barrels of the columns that adorn the large staircase of the Garnier Opera in Paris.
Abroad, a magnificent Peach Blossom marble fireplace sits in the Golden Ball hall of The Marble House in Newport, in the United States, and was produced by Jules Allard for William Kissam Vanderbilt.
The original career, open in the 17th century, is located in Serravezza, in the Carrara basin, in Italy. This variety is then called “Fior Di Pesco Apuano” (Apuane fishing flower) in order to distinguish it from its Greek homonym, originally from Eretrie. This marble is a breach made up of irregular fragments spotted with purple, red or pink. In the 17th century, it was widely used in religious decoration. It was also widely used under the Second Empire, especially for the decoration of the Garnier Opera. Since the 20th century, careers have been discovered in the regions of Versilia and Garfagnana, and more recently in those of Renana, Forno and Massa. Today, this marble is rarely extracted and is becoming increasingly rare.
